New Month Resolutions

carrots

I have never been a big New Year’s Resolutions person. It has always seemed to me like a very artificial and forced thing that everyone starts but no one finishes. I decided this year that instead of forcing myself into resolutions I knew I wouldn’t keep anyway, I should try something new. That’s where New Month Resolutions come in.

What are New Month Resolutions?

Every month, I will set a small goal for myself. These will generally be wellness-related, but I won’t necessarily hold myself to that. The most important criteria for each of my New Month Resolutions will be: SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, time-bound) and habits I want to build.

New Month Resolutions will start at the beginning of each month, but they should also continue into the future. The point of setting these mini monthly goals is to build better habits into my day-to-day routine.

My New Month Resolutions for 2018

I haven’t yet determined exactly when I will fold these in this year, but here are some of the things I’m thinking I’ll try adding each month:

  • Drink 8 glasses of water every day.
  • Bring my lunch to work 3 times per week.
  • Eat breakfast at home 3 times per week instead of buying at a coffee shop.
  • Read every night before bed.
  • Work out 3 times per week.
  • Keep my apartment clean enough to invite people over at all times.

You get the idea.

January’s Resolution

This month, I’ve kicked things off with a resolution to cook dinner at home at least twice per week. I spend way too much money going out to eat with my boyfriend when we’re too tired/lazy to cook. It’s just so convenient to go to a place where they cook for you! I’ve been doing pretty well with this one so far, making a delicious cheesy scalloped potato dish, chicken, and asparagus last week and a veggie soup over the last night. If you have good recipe recommendations that are heavy on vegetables and light on dairy, send them my way!

At the end of each month, I’ll post a recap of how things went and introduce my next new month resolutions.

If you’re trying something similar, let me know in the comments!
